BBC pundit Garth Crooks has raved about Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez after his masterclass in the 3-2 win over Everton at the weekend.

The 25-year-old scored two late goals to turn the contest on its head and give the hosts three valuable Premier League points at St James’ Park.

He is a creative playmaker that is a regular starter in Rafael Benitez’s team and he’s now up to seven goals across all competitions this season.

Crooks was pariauclary impressed by the tireless running of the Spaniard against Everton and his immense work-rate is a large part behind his constant spot in the XI.

“It wasn’t Lee Mason (referee) who was responsible for his (Marco Silva) team’s complete meltdown but Ayoze Perez,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“The Spaniard ran Everton ragged, never lost his nerve and never gave up.”

TBR’s View:

Perez often gets criticised in the North East for his lack of end product, but he looks like he could break the 10-goal barrier again in the top flight if he has a good end to the season and is a useful player within the team.

His £1.5million (Guardian) transfer cost is a total bargain when you consider what he’s produced in a Newcastle shirt and most importantly Benitez rates him highly.

The attacker’s display against Everton was proof that he can be a fox in the box with his finishing and he also produced a stunning assist for Salomon Rondon with a chipped pass.
