Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has been praised by BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks for his role in Spurs’ win last time out.

The 21-year-old Tottenham star provided the assist for James Maddison to break the deadlock away at Aston Villa on Sunday.

Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski linked up well with Pedro Porro before releasing Sarr down the right flank.

The Senegal international surged down the wing before whipping in a pinpoint cross for Maddison to poke home from point-blank range.

Although Sarr didn’t make the cut in Crooks‘ latest Premier League Team of the Week, the former Tottenham ace gave him an honourable mention.

Crooks named Maddison in his XI, but also lauded Sarr for the cross which enabled the Spurs playmaker to open the scoring at Villa Park.

“Nothing could stop Maddison from dominating the midfield,” Crooks wrote on the BBC Sport website.

“Spurs controlled this fixture against Aston Villa from start to finish and Maddison was at the heart of it.

“His goal was a peach only surpassed by the most glorious cross supplied by Sarr.

“Maddison had to cover a great deal of ground to get into the six-yard box to get on the end of the cross.”

Pape Matar Sarr the kind of players Tottenham could build a team around – opinion

Sarr is very much the glue in Spurs’ midfield, boasting many top attributes such as work-rate, defensive awareness, ball carrying and off-the-ball work.

Already so crucial at just 21 years of age, it’ll be exciting to see how the ‘unbelievable‘ talent continues to develop in the coming years.

Things are looking very healthy at Tottenham. Under Ange Postecoglou, they’re certainly heading in the right direction.

It’s not been completely plain sailing – then again, even the likes of Manchester City have had a few stumbling blocks – but for the most part, it’s much better than last season’s disappointments.

Sarr is one of several young Tottenham players who look set for a superb career in the game, truly the sort of player you can build a team around.
