Danny Ings joined Southampton from Liverpool on a permanent basis in the summer and the Englishman is doing his level best to keep his side in the Premier League.
He netted twice more as the Saints secured a vital away win against relegation rivals Aston Villa on Saturday and BBC pundit Garth Crooks raved over how he has improved since leaving Liverpool.
Crooks said: “Away wins don’t come much more satisfying than a 3-1 victory at Villa Park. However, I can’t remember the last time I saw three goals gifted in such a manner by a Premier League side. Aston Villa were woeful. It might have be down to the absence of Tyrone Mings but whatever the reason they had better fix it quickly.
As for Southampton, they looked to have recovered from their mauling by Leicester City earlier in the season – especially Danny Ings. The former Burnley and Liverpool striker has never looked back since he left Anfield and took his second goal brilliantly. The Saints need to stay up – because if they don’t, then Ings is gone.”

TBR’s View – Ings finally over fitness concerns and showing his quality
It doesn’t take too much to imagine a scenario where it’s Ings – not Divock Origi – who is the Liverpool backup striker who became a cult hero for having a happy knack of scoring crucial goals.
In reality, Ings had to leave to get regular gametime and try and keep himself fit. The 27-year-old has done exactly that and is tearing up the Premier League now.
He is showing the form which caught the eye when he first came through at Burnley and while he might consider what might have been if he’d stayed at Anfield, but the move has got his career back on track.
