BBC pundit Garth Crooks has hailed Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings, branding the star ‘an inspired signing’.
The analyst has selected Mings in his 2020 Team of the Year, which also included Villa captain Jack Grealish.

Mings has been with Villa since January 2019, joining from Bournemouth on loan initially.
The star was instrumental in helping Dean Smith’s side gain promotion to the Premier League, and he then had a pretty good 2019/20 campaign, making 36 appearances in all competitions.
This term, he’s been solid alongside Ezri Konsa and has helped the club to a league-best of eight clean sheets so far, and Crooks has raved about the 27-year-old.

He said: “He played an important role in helping Aston Villa survive relegation and has been an integral part of their defensive successes so far this season. Villa have kept eight clean sheets in the league and are fifth in the table.
“Mings is proving to be an inspired signing for Villa, and his selection for England is merely a reflection of the enormous progress the defender has made since his arrival from Bournemouth, where his appearances were limited.”
TBR’s View – Mings justifies price tag
Many eyebrows were raised when Villa shelled out £20 million (plus £5 million in add-ons, via Sky Sports) to sign Mings permanently.

That was seemingly a lot to pay for someone who has not had the best injury record.
But his performances on loan convinced Villa to do the deal, and it’s fair to say the England international is looking decent value for money.
He can still improve, but £80,000-a-week warrior Mings (Spotrac) has definitely been a key cog in an ever-improving Villa side.
