Garth Crooks backs Dele Alli to shine for Tottenham during 2021/22
Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Dele Alli for his performance in yesterday’s 2-0 win for Tottenham over Wolves. He was named by the ex-Spurs star in his BBC Sport Team of the Week.
Alli was instrumental in the victory and looks to be enjoying his football once again. He was alienated largely under Jose Mourinho, with speculation often rife over his future.
Now though, the 25-year-old looks to be edging back towards his scintillating best. He was a constant menace to the Wolves defenders yesterday, producing a display that showcased his undoubted talent.
Following his performance, Crooks raved about the 37-cap star and named the Spurs star in his Team of the Week on the BBC Sport website.
He said: “Sunday’s game against Wolves wasn’t a classic by any means but it was nice to see Dele Alli back in the Tottenham line-up and slowly coming back to form.
“The England midfielder is not firing on all cylinders just yet but with some starts under his belt as the campaign closes and a good pre-season, who knows what 2021/22 might bring?
“With the Jose Mourinho experiment having failed, chairman Daniel Levy could see value restored to the squad members affected by their ex-manager’s reluctance to pick certain players, including Alli.”
TBR View: Spurs should now stick with Alli
The Tottenham man was deemed as one of the next top talents only a few years ago and he hasn’t become a bad player overnight.
Perhaps he has struggled to fulfil his potential to the extent he should have but there is still a solid player in there.
The £100,000-a-week player is getting his confidence back and he has plenty more to offer the Tottenham team.
In 249 appearances for the club, he has scored 65 goals and claimed 60 assists. That certainly isn’t the statistics sheet of a player who Spurs should wash their hands off.
Tottenham must keep Alli and they need to find a manager capable of unearthing more untapped potential out of the England midfielder.
