Aston Villa pair Tyrone Mings and Jack Grealish are to be watched by England manager Gareth Southgate in tonight’s match against Everton, according to the Daily Mail.

Southgate will name his squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo next week and is apparently set to be at Villa Park to watch the pair up close alongside his assistant Steve Holland.

Grealish has long been talked about in terms of the England reckoning, but Southgate would reportedly not consider him until he was playing Premier League football.

That is no longer an issue and Mings also apparently has a chance to impress with Southgate looking to expand his poor of central defenders.

TBR’s View – Remains to be seen whether either man has done enough to impress in the top flight yet

Mings and Grealish were shining stars in the Championship last season but Southgate has made it clear that he wants to see the players in the Premier League – and that’s his prerogative.

Tonight marks the third top flight game of Villa’s season and they have not yet picked up clean sheet or a point – so it could be argued that neither player has impressed enough so far in that short time to get into the England squad.

Many Villa fans will feel Grealish is more than worthy of a place in the England squad but the likes of James Maddison are likely ahead of him in the pecking order.

In Mings’ case, the likes of Lewis Dunk and James Tarkowski are likely in his way in terms of centre-halves – but a big performance a win tonight could tip the balance in Southgate’s thoughts.
