Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka has been praised by England manager Gareth Southgate after the latest Three Lions squad announcement saw the Gunners academy graduate included for the first time.
The 19-year-old Arsenal prodigy will be part of the Three Lions contingent for the friendly with Wales and then Nations League fixtures against Belgium and Denmark.
In July, Saka told Sky Sports that he had a difficult decision to make at international level – stick with England after progressing through the youth ranks, or switch to Nigeria.
The versatile left-sided ace, who enjoyed a stellar breakthrough season at Arsenal in 2019-20, has now made his mind up and is in line to win his first senior cap over the next fortnight.
Asked about Saka’s decision to turn down Nigeria in favour of England, Southgate is quoted by Metro as saying: “I’ve not talked specifically to Bukayo about that.
“I think so many of our players are eligible for dual-nationality, sometimes for more than two countries.”
On the subject of what Saka could bring to the table for England, Southgate said: “We’ve been impressed with his progress through our system.
“I thought at times for Arsenal last year, at times really exciting. Still very young, still learning, of course, but improving all the time. High potential, real good quality.
“Everybody that’s worked with him tells me he’s a very level-headed, intelligent boy.
“So it’s an area of the pitch we’re keen to look at a different profile of player. He can play a number of different roles very comfortably.”
Saka has shown he’s a cut above for Arsenal over the past year, with an impressive tally of 45 senior appearances, four goals and 12 assists, not to mention superb displays in numerous positions on the pitch.
And aside from his talent and versatility, his attitude is spot on, and all in all, Saka has all the tools necessary to star for club and country – great news for Arsenal and England fans.
