Leeds United look fairly certain to be playing in the Championship play-offs at the end of the season. Norwich City and Sheffield United essentially secured their promotion to the Premier League yesterday leaving Leeds battling with the rest of the top six.

The play-offs, of course, are something of a lottery and Leeds fans will be scratching for any good omens ahead of the end-of-season competition getting underway.

Well, one of the Leeds United crop has a brilliant record when it comes to play-off football. Not in England however, but in Italy.

Gaetano Berardi is recently back to full fitness and will be hoping to play a key role in the club’s pursuit of Premier League football.

The Swiss defender has twice participated in the play-offs from Serie B in Italia football. He played for Brescia in the 2009-10 play-off picture and again with Sampdoria in 2011-12.

In 2010, he helped Brescia defeat Torino 2-1 on aggregate to win promotion, in 2012 Sampdoria defeated Varese 4-2 on aggregate to earn a place in Serie A.

Berardi certainly appears to be something of a lucky charm when it comes to the play-off picture, hopefully, he can add a third play-off winner’s medal to his trophy cabinet in May.
