Gaetano Berardi says on-fire Leeds teammate can still improve

Gaetano Berardi has told BBC Radio Leeds that on-fire teammate Ben White can still improve, as the Brighton loanee continues to shine during his season-long spell at Leeds United.

Berardi and White combined at centre-back in the absence of Liam Cooper on Tuesday night to make it seven wins in a row. The Whites secured a 2-0 win over Hull City, but it was not as straightforward as the scoreline suggests.

Kiko Casilla had to make a number of saves to keep his clean sheet intact. Berardi was embroiled in a battle with Hull target man Tom Eaves throughout the match, and Leeds only broke the deadlock thanks to an own goal from Jordy de Wijs.

Gjanni Alioski scored a second with Hull chasing the game and after the match, one-time Switzerland international Berardi was asked about White – who has gained Premier League attention for his performances. Berardi believes he can still improve.

“He’s doing great,” Berardi said. “Everybody could see from the first game that he is doing well. But he can also improve. He needs to do it like this, he needs to stay focused. We are helping him, just like he is helping us.”

TBR’s view – If White can improve, then Leeds will gain promotion

The loss of Pontus Jansson in the summer surprised and hurt Leeds fans in equal measure. Many demanded he was replaced, with only an unknown from Brighton brought in at centre-back.

Fast forward four months, and he is the most in-form defender in the division. For a player of just 21 years of age, White is boasting the kind of quality you would expect from a player in the top half of the Premier League.

If he can get better, as Berardi suggests, then so will Leeds – and take a massive step towards the Premier League.
