Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi will reportedly be recalled to the starting XI for the club’s last league game of the season away to Ipswich Town at the weekend.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the 30-year-old is expected to start against Ipswich due to a host of injuries in the left-back area.
The report details that Stuart Dallas is a doubt ahead of the weekend after bruising his knee, but is set to be back in time for the play-offs.
The Whites are already with recognised full-backs Barry Douglas, Gjanni Alioski and Leif Davis for the rest of the campaign through injury.
Manager Marcelo Bielsa will need to find a solution for the play-offs and it looks like Dallas is the frontrunner to slot in at left-back if he overcomes an injury problem in time.
But Berardi has a lifeline against Ipswich to impress and needs to try deliver a faultless performance to force his way into the side for the play-offs.
Berardi has missed a large chunk of the campaign through injury, but has been back in the fold during the last few months and made 13 appearances across all competitions this season.
He is a versatile defender that can play anywhere across the frontline and may feel he can provide the solution at left-back.
The Swiss enforcer is a big fan favourite due to his work-rate and tough approach, which could be key skills needed for the race for promotion.
Leeds have a two-legged semi-final in the play-offs they need to try negotiate and a final at Wembley if they make it that far.
The Ipswich game may seem like a dead rubber, but it should be used for players to fight for spots and the window appears open for Berardi to impress.
