Gabriel Martinelli praises ‘incredible’ Aubemayang, hopes to follow in Arsenal star’s footsteps

Arsenal youngster Gabriel Martinelli has been singing the praises of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, insisting it is a ‘pleasure’ to be able to learn from the striker.

Martinelli has suffered a frustrating season with injury this term. It’s been disappointing for the Brazilian, who is highly-rated by Mikel Arterta and was hoping for plenty of minutes this term.

Similarly, Aubameyang has suffered at times, both on and off the field. However, the Gabon star has exploded into life of late, netting a hat-trick last weekend against Leeds.

And Martinelli, speaking to ESPN Brazil (quotes via the Mirror), believes learning from Aubameyang can only be a good thing for him.

“Of course, Auba is an incredible player. Not just a player, an incredible person,” Martinelli commented.

“It’s a pleasure to have him in the team. He’s a guy who plays in my position. I can look at him every day and try to learn as much as possible.”

Aubameyang signed a big money contract in the summer to remain with Arsenal. He’ll be hoping his recent return to form can be a big turning point for him, with just under a third of the campaign remaining.

Martinelli, meanwhile, admitted he is hoping to get back playing soon as he hopes to once again impress Arteta.

They don’t come much better in world football in terms of pure goalscorers than Aubameyang. He’s proven it in Germany and in England, winning the Golden Boot just a few seasons back.

Having Aubameyang in his best form is a massive boost for Arsenal. His goals will be invaluable, as will his experience and knowhow to the likes of Martinelli and co.

In terms of Martinelli himself, he just needs to work hard and make an impression. The talent is more than there, so it’s just a case of him staying fit and realising that potential.
