Gabriel Martinelli was one of the more surprising names included in Tite’s Brazil squad for the World Cup in Qatar this winter.
Despite playing brilliantly for Arsenal this season, many had expected Martinelli to be left out. However, in the end, Tite opted to go with the Arsenal youngster, with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino the man to miss out in the end.
Of course, Martinelli’s inclusion will be no surprise to his manager at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta. The Spanish coach has been a big advocate of the South American. He has played him most games this season and been rewarded for showing such faith.

And speaking to The Telegraph, Martinelli revealed Arteta was delighted for him.
“That is why I’m there (in the Brazil squad). Because I’m doing well with my club. When I talked to Mikel he was so happy for me. He said congratulations and said to go there and smash it,” Martinelli revealed.
Of course, getting into the Brazil XI will be a new challenge altogether for Martinelli. The Selecao have a vast array of attacking talents at their disposal. Martinelli must fight past players like Neymar, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo to even get a look in.
TBR’s View: Martinelli can thank Arteta for Brazil call
There is no chance that Gabriel Martinelli gets in the Brazil squad if Mikel Arteta didn’t help him.
Not only has the Arsenal coach developed him in training. But giving him starts in the first XI and trusting in his ability has seen Martinelli flourish. Of course, the striker has had to deliver himself. But Arteta deserves credit.
Now, it’s down to the Brazilian to simply impress over in Qatar. Doing so will be no easy task. Brazil’s squad is so deep he might not even get on the pitch.
But if Tite does call on him, then you can guarantee Martinelli will be ready to succeed.
