Gabriel Martinelli has provided the news a lot of Arsenal fans will have been desperate to hear, by telling the club’s official website that he will be fit for Thursday.
Mikel Arteta handed Martinelli his first league start since January on Sunday as the Gunners faced Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
It proved to be a positive night for Arsenal. Martinelli got on the scoresheet, separating an Alexandre Lacazette brace as the visitors strolled to a 3-0 win.
However, it was not a night without a couple of potential downsides for the Gunners. Bukayo Saka had to come off injured. And Martinelli came off later on having previously gone down holding his ankle.
Given the terrible luck the 19-year-old has had with injuries, fans may have feared the worst. But Martinelli managed to issue a positive update after the game.
“No, I am alright to play on Thursday,” he told the club’s official website.
It is a huge boost for Arsenal to have Martinelli back. And they will also be hoping that Saka is not sidelined for long.
Arteta’s men are heading into an absolutely vital clash with Slavia Prague this week. And their injury list is already quite significant.
Martinelli issued a reminder of what he can do on Sunday. So it is fantastic for the Gunners that he is seemingly set to be available for a tie that could potentially prove season-defining.
