Gabriel Martinelli could be final piece of the jigsaw for Arsenal

Arsenal are starting to click under Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners beat Manchester United on Sunday, with the Spaniard executing a perfect game plan to end the club’s ‘Big Six’ away-from-home hoodoo.

The 1-0 win was very impressive, with Thomas Partey and Gabriel arguably the stars of the show.

The new signings have both made fantastic starts and have clearly improved the starting XI.

Arsenal have steadily been building a strong side in recent times, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bernd Leno and Kieran Tierney all top-class additions.

It still feels, though, that Arsenal are missing something.

Aubameyang’s position has been the subject of debate recently, and it can be argued that the Gabon superstar isn’t as effective from the left as he is through the middle.

Perhaps Arsenal do have a player in their ranks who has the potential to make everything click in the final third.

TBR’s View – Martinelli the missing link?

Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli has not played for the Gunners since March 2 against Portsmouth in the FA Cup.

The 19-year-old – who cost the club a bargain £6 million (Telegraph) – had arthroscopic surgery on his knee, and has since been working hard to return.

That return should come soon, with the player having recently resumed first-team training.

Theoretically, livewire Martinelli – who banged in 10 goals for the Gunners last term – could take up that left-wing position, allowing Aubameyang to move central.

The South American is extremely direct and has the potential to lay on assists for Aubameyang and also score goals himself.

Arsenal’s defence has made great strides in recent times and the midfield is also now looking solid with the addition of Partey, and it’s about time the attack got itself back on track – having Martinelli back in the side would surely help massively.
