Gabriel Magalhaes shares what he’s found ‘unbelievable’ at Arsenal as he makes admission about himself

Arsenal have had an eventful few years, developing from a team struggling to even make Europe to one routinely challenging for the Premier League title.

Arsenal now boast some of the best players in the Premier League, and quite a few have been there for most of this journey from also-rans to one of England’s best.

For instance, Gabriel Magalhaes joined Arsenal from Lille for £27million in September 2020, not long after they had finished eighth in the Premier League table.

Four-and-a-half years on, Arsenal are now competing for the Premier League title for the third season in a row, and Gabriel is one of the league’s best defenders.

Gabriel, alongside William Saliba, have formed one of the best centre-back pairings in world football.

The Brazil international has now spoken to the Arsenal media team about how he feels things have changed for him since arriving at N5.

Gabriel feels he has “improved a lot” since joining Arsenal

Gabriel believes he is a “very, very different player” these days, saying he feels he has improved a lot thanks to all his colleagues at the Emirates Stadium.

The 27-year-old also said he feels his playing style has changed, and also how much he enjoys it now. For instance, he celebrates tackles as he would goals.

“I think I’m a very, very different player now! I feel like I’ve improved a lot, because the coaches and the other players here have helped me every single day,” he told the Arsenal website.

“It’s been unbelievable and I think a lot of things in my life have changed. Now I play every single game and I’m so happy to be part of this club and the Arsenal family.

“I think I’ve changed how I defend now, how I love to defend. I don’t know if you can just pick one thing that’s changed, but I think I have improved in different ways since I joined Arsenal.

The moment I make a good tackle in the area, I go to the same place in my head as when I score a goal, so of course I will celebrate. It’s good to be like that I think.”

What Gabriel’s teammates told him in his early days at Arsenal

Gabriel admitted that Arsenal was “not in a good moment” when he joined, but he loved being thrown in at the deep end.

He also praised his fellow Brazilian speakers, along with the Spanish speakers at the club, for how they helped him acclimatise to life at the club.

“When I came to Arsenal, the club wasn’t in a good moment really, compared to now, so I knew it was a big challenge for me and for my family,” he said.

“Again, I didn’t expect that I would be starting that first game, I had only had four days training with the team, then I was playing in the Premier League!

“Just a few sessions, to be in the starting XI was amazing for me. But for sure the players here made it easy for me.

“The Brazilian players, the Spanish speakers as well, they helped me a lot. They said to me ‘you know why you are here, so enjoy it and play your game.’

“They told me to enjoy the moment and I scored as well, so it was a perfect start for me.”
