Gabriel Magalhaes sends message to Arsenal's Martinelli after Brazil's shock defeat in Qatar

Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli made his full World Cup debut for Brazil against Cameroon last night, and unfortunately for him, the result did not go his way.

Tite made numerous changes to his side yesterday. Brazil had already qualified for the next round of the competition, so the defeat doesn’t really matter.

However, Martinelli would’ve liked to remember his full debut much differently.

Gabriel Magalhaes sends message to Arsenal’s Martinelli after Brazil’s shock defeat in Qatar

Two of Arsenal’s three Gabriels – Jesus and Martinelli – started for the first time in this year’s World Cup last night.

Martinelli was definitely the best player on the pitch. He was a constant threat to Cameroon, and if it wasn’t for Devis Epassy in goal, he could’ve had a hat-trick.

However, the young Brazilian’s shots on target were dealt with well, and Brazil failed to score. Vincent Aboubakar secured a shock win for Cameroon in the end by scoring in the 92nd minute of the game.

Martinelli, unsurprisingly, was disappointed with the result, but he was happy to have made his full World Cup debut last night. He took to Instagram and to address the defeat and wrote: “Focus on the next match!”

The 21-year-old’s Arsenal teammate, Gabriel Magalhaes, showed some support under his post. He wrote: “Jogou muito meu irmão,” which roughly translates to “(you) played hard my brother!”

TBR View:

It’s a shame that Martinelli’s full debut ended in a defeat, but he should be happy with his performance.

The young Brazilian was undoubtedly the standout player on the pitch. He was absolutely incredible, and if he had a bit of luck, he would’ve scored a hat-trick last night.

As good as Martinelli was, he will likely return to the bench when Brazil take on South Korea on Monday. Vinicius Jr has made the left-wing spot his own, and after getting a break yesterday, he will return to the side.

However, Martinelli showed what he can do yesterday, and it won’t be a surprise at all if Tite turns to him to come off the bench and have a positive impact.
