Gabriel Magalhaes has put immense pressure on Arsenal and Mikel Arteta to perform in the Premier League and Champions League this season with his latest comments.
Arsenal have a huge season ahead of them. The Gunners finished trophyless in the 24/25 campaign, despite having one of the best teams in the Premier League by a country mile.
For this reason, the next campaign is crucial for Mikel Arteta. Another season without silverware could spell the end of fan and owner patience with the Spaniard.

The heat is well and truly on – and maybe even more so now with Gabriel Magalhaes’ latest comments.
Gabriel says he will win trophies at Arsenal
“I’ve already been at the club five years, and I can see the progress that’s happening here,” Gabriel told The Athletic. “I’m here to win titles, to achieve things, to help make Arsenal even bigger.
“I truly believe this upcoming season will be a big challenge for us, but I also believe we can win things. We have a great chance of winning a trophy.”
The centre-back went on to explain the frustration of the previous few campaigns, but is sure the one ahead will pan out differently.
“In the last few years, we were very close to winning things, and it ended up slipping away,” he continued. “But I have complete confidence in the club and everything they’re doing to help it grow, and I’m certain that this year we’ll be fighting again.”
Gabriel concluded: “I don’t think we can make excuses. Over the past three years, we’ve done everything we could. We just lacked a bit of luck. But within the club, I truly believe we’re all convinced that we can win trophies – big trophies.”
Gabriel also spoke about Viktor Gyokeres – a player who looks Emirates-bound and would certainly help them try and achieve their season’s goals.

Pressure is now on for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal
“I don’t think we can make excuses”, is a potent line from that interview, and one that really does now ring true around the Emirates.
Arteta has been at the club for six years now, and despite winning the FA Cup in 2020, haven’t kicked on and won anything since.
And that is despite some ludicrous spending from the Spaniard, as shown in some ridiculous figures for players below.
| Player | Position | Transfer Fee | Signed In |
|---|---|---|---|
| Declan Rice | Midfielder | £105 million | Summer 2023 |
| Kai Havertz | Winger | £65 million | Summer 2023 |
| Thomas Partey | Midfielder | £45 million | Autumn 2020 |
| Gabriel Jesus | Forward | £45 million | Summer 2022 |
| Ben White | Defender | £50 million | Summer 2021 |
Is 2026 Arsenal’s year? Time will tell, but Gabriel’s comments have added a new element of pressure heading into the 25-26 campaign.
