Gabriel Jesus will be 'licking his lips' over potential Arsenal partnership Arteta's never used before - pundit

Arsenal and Brazilian duo Gabriel Jesus and Marquinhos are yet to start a game alongside each other since their summer arrivals.

Marquinhos got his first Gunners start in their last outing, the Europa League 2-1 win over FC Zurich to kick off the campaign.

Jesus was rested from the start of that game as Eddie Nketiah got the nod, but came off the bench as a substitute.

Former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell has said on YouTube that he thinks Jesus will relish the chance to play with his compatriot, who is awaiting a Premier League debut.

Arsenal yet to start Jesus and Marquinhos together

He said: “Marquinhos did himself no harm whatsoever with that performance against Zurich.

“A goal, an assist and he played really well. He was our star man.

“That left foot he can cut back onto from the right and whip balls in with; I’m sure Jesus was licking his lips, thinking he wouldn’t mind some of that.

“I could see him being on the bench for sure. Of course I can. Smith Rowe isn’t fit, so there’s a space.”

Marquinhos operates in the same area of the pitch as Buyako Saka and that means he will have to be patient in terms of starting games.

That said, Arsenal are reportedly considering a January loan exit for the 19-year-old winger, according to the Sun.

The Sun’s report believes that Arteta will only sanction a loan deal for Marquinhos if the club signs another winger.

Villarreal’s Yeremi Pino was heavily linked with a move to north London and so was Wolves’ Pedro Neto, and it remains to be seen what can be done in the winter window.
