Gabriel Jesus reacts to Marquinhos' display in Arsenal win vs Chelsea
Gabriel Jesus has lauded Marquinhos on Instagram after the youngster’s display as Arsenal thrashed Chelsea in their latest pre-season friendly overnight.
Mikel Arteta’s men picked up a hugely impressive win in Orlando. Jesus got yet another goal following his move to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Albert Sambi Lokonga also found the back of the net as Arsenal got the better of the Blues in the Florida Cup.
A number of Arsenal players shone against Thomas Tuchel’s men. But the game presented Marquinhos with another opportunity to impress.
The 19-year-old’s arrival has perhaps gone under the radar for those outside of the Emirates. But obviously, the hopes are incredibly high given the success Arsenal have had signing Brazilian players in recent years.
One of those is obviously Jesus. And the early signs are that he is going to be an inspired addition for Arteta’s men.
However, it was Marquinhos who Jesus wanted to praise on social media after the win over Chelsea…
Marquinhos one to watch at Arsenal this season
With the signings Arsenal have made, Marquinhos can perhaps take his time to adapt in North London. The pressure will be on the likes of Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who have arrived for considerable fees.
Marquinhos meanwhile, just needs to keep showing glimpses of his potential. There will be opportunities. Arsenal are battling on four fronts this season after qualifying for the Europa League.
That competition will give the younger players a good chance to impress and develop their games. And Marquinhos may be one of those who sees most of his minutes coming in European competition.
But there is certainly scope for the teenager to move himself up the pecking order over the coming months.
