Arsenal have some of the best attacking players in the Premier League, but it’s their defenders who have been making headlines this week.
Indeed, the Gunners beat Tottenham 1-0 on Sunday, and defence was the order of the day.
Arsenal kept a clean sheet against Ange Postecoglou’s attacking side, while the winning goal was nodded in by Gabriel Magalhaes.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Gabriel Agbonlahor has been full of praise for Magalhaes, claiming that he was outstanding against Arsenal.
Interestingly, Agbonlahor also noted that he thinks there’s an argument to be had that the £27m man is Arsenal’s best defender ahead of William Saliba.

Gabriel Magalhaes is arguably Arsenal’s best defender
Agbonlahor spoke about Magalhaes and his impact on Sunday.
“Watching the game, he is one of the defenders I would have hated to play against. He’s aggressive, he’s strong, he’s quick, he’s good on the ball, and to get that goal, that goal was the only probably chance in the game that was really going to go in for either team,” Agbonlahor said.
“I thought Gabriel was outstanding. He has picked up where he left last season and arguably he’s Arsenal’s best defender.”
Gabriel Magalhaes is one of the best defenders around
William Saliba gets most of the credit for Arsenal’s stellar defensive record, but Gabriel Magalhaes deserves his props as well.
The Brazilian isn’t quite as majestic a player as his French counterpart, but he’s just as dominant as a defensive player in terms of helping Arsenal keep those clean sheets, while he’s also contributes massively at the other end of the pitch.
Gabriel is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and he probably does deserve more credit for his performances over the past two years alongside Saliba.
