Aston Villa have been left reeling by Arsenal’s audacious bid for striker Ollie Watkins on Wednesday.

TBR Football revealed on Wednesday that Aston Villa are furious with Arsenal after their £60million bid for Watkins.

Arsenal’s offer was rejected straight away and Aston Villa made it clear how unhappy they were, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirmed.

The Villans were in Champions League action against Celtic on Wednesday night, and the Villa Park side were unhappy with the timing of the Watkins bid.

Villa cult hero Gabriel Agbonlahor has now weighed in on the subject, also making a definitive transfer claim involving the claret-and-blue club.

Gabriel Agbonlahor stunned by Arsenal audacity in timing of Ollie Watkins bid

Agbonlahor, speaking on talkSPORT, was also furious with Arsenal over the bid they’ve made for Watkins ahead of Villa’s big game.

He said: “Right boys, the audacity of Arsenal on the eve of the evening of the game, a massive game for Villa tonight against Celtic.

“To put in a bid of £60million for Ollie Watkins to go sideways to Arsenal. The audacity of this football club. I’m in shock here.

“Villa fans are going to the game in good spirits, and now both of our star strikers have had bids in for them. How unsettling is that for both of the players tonight?”

Aston Villa tipped to ‘definitely’ sell Jhon Duran if £75million bid received

In 2020, Watkins told the Sports Gazette how he dreamt of playing for Arsenal one day.

“That’s the dream, to play for Arsenal one day. But, you know, it’s a long shot,” he said at the 2020 London Football Awards ceremony.

When asked about this, Agbonlahor acknowledged that Watkins is a boyhood fan of Arsenal, but he claimed the Gunners have no chance of landing him.

Agbonlahor then named Jhon Duran as the most likely Villa forward to leave, claiming they’ll “definitely” sell him if they get £75million for him.

“Yeah, that’s what I mean, he’s (Watkins) come out, I think it was 2019 maybe, Benty, where he said that he would love to play for Arsenal one day,” said Agbonlahor.

“So, listen, it’s really unsettling, but knowing the situation, there is zero chance of them selling Watkins.

“Duran will be the one they sell, because he’s got that side to him where he can be a bit of a handful. The manager won’t accept that.

“If they can get £75million for him, they will definitely sell Duran. But I just don’t like the timing from Arsenal. I don’t know who the hell they think they are.”

Duran has been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham United and Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia in the January window.
