Gabby Agbonlahor slams ‘naive’ Marcelo Bielsa for Leeds’ tactics at Crystal Palace

Former Aston Villa striker and now Talksport pundit, Gabby Agbonlahor, has slammed Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa for his approach to this weekend’s game at Crystal Palace.

Leeds were comfortably seen off by Roy Hodgson’s side, losing 4-1 and conceding heavily yet again in a Premier League fixture.

It was the third time Leeds have let four in this season and the second week running, following Leicester’s impressive performance at Elland Road a week or so ago.

And Agbonlahor, who was speaking on Talksport following the game, insists Bielsa is being naive and needs to change tact.

“It’s a bit naive. Bielsa has to change his tactics for different games. You can’t press every team and be so open.

“You play three centre-halves who for me, aren’t good enough for the Premier League. Zaha, Eze, Townsend, Ayew, they’re going to destroy you. You can’t be beating teams 5-4 every game. Some games you have to change your tactics and I think it’s a bit of naivety from Bielsa”.

Leeds, in fairness, did have some rotten luck as Patrick Bamford saw a goal ruled out for the finest of margins due to VAR.

However, they were open in defence and Palace’s impressive attackers did enjoy plenty of freedom, which Agbonlahor aludes to here.

Agbonlahor sometimes comes out with things which aren’t to everyone’s taste but this is a good point quite well made in fairness.

Leeds will end up going down if they carry on with this sort of tactic. You can’t, as he says, keep conceding the amount of goals they are an expect to get away with it all the time.

Bielsa needs to fine a system to tighten up, while a returning Kalvin Phillips could also prove vital.
