Gabby Agbonlahor has reacted on Instagram to the news that Aston Villa have completed the loan signing of Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley until the end of the season – posting a five-word message following confirmation.
Barkley, 26, has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea under Frank Lampard – with the Chelsea boss bringing Hakim Ziyech to the club from Ajax. The likes of Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and other midfielders are above the England star.
It has seen Villa swoop. The Chelsea midfielder has a contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2023, while it is believed Barkley has agreed a loan without a permanent option to join Villa.
The deal was somewhat out of the blue, though the Midlands club had been linked with the former Everton man – as well as Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Villa confirmed the news on their social media channels, including Instagram.
Barkley will now be tasked with taking Villa away from the drop zone and looking to help Villa push for the top-half of the table – or at least mid-table obscurity. He is expected to rival the likes of John McGinn and Conor Hourihane for a place in midfield.
Responding to Villa’s confirmation on Instagram, club icon Agbonlahor responded with a five-word verdict on the signing of the midfielder – claiming “this club is going places”. John Terry also responded, with a fist emoji.
