Gabriel Agbonlahor has named the two players Arsenal should use in a swap deal to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney.

The former Aston Villa skipper believes Arsenal simply need to find a way to snap up the Brentford striker this month.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been heavily linked with a move for Ivan Toney as they search for reinforcements in attack.

Arsenal have hit a tough patch of form heading into the January transfer window, having lost two of their last three games. It’s led to them slipping down to fourth in the table and scoring goals has proven to be difficult recently.

Indeed, the Gunners have netted just twice in their last three games. Toney is a long-standing target but it remains unclear whether or not the striker will leave Brentford this month.

Now, Agbonlahor has urged Arsenal to use Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe as part of a deal to sign the Bees star.

Agbonlahor says Arenal should swap Nketiah and Smith Rowe for Toney

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor claimed Arsenal must do everything within their power to land Toney this month.

“Arsenal should be there now with Edu, with Arteta, up there in the boardroom finding a way to make Ivan Toney join,” he said.

“Find a way, Financial Fair Play’s difficult but I said earlier Smith Rowe, Nketiah, they go to Brentford plus a little bit of money, give us Ivan Toney.

“Brentford are just above the relegation zone, I think it’s four points, so they’re not going to want to sell Toney without bringing in a couple of players.”

Arsenal are lacking a clinical finisher at this moment in time, with Gabriel Jesus and Nketiah bagging just eight league goals between them this term.

Nketiah has five of them but has failed to nail down his place in Arteta’s side.

As for Smith Rowe, he’s found minutes hard to come by this term as he’s made just six appearances in the league.

While it seems like an ideal plan to use two players to lower Toney’s price tag, there’s a reason why swap deals rarely actually happen.

Both Smith Rowe and Nketiah would have to be keen on a move to Brentford and that certainly can’t be guaranteed with Thomas Frank’s side currently sitting just above the relegation zone.

If Arsenal do want to snap up Toney this month, it will likely take a sizeable cash offer to lure him away from the Gtech Community Stadium.
