‘Fuming’: Darren Bent claims £20m Newcastle United player will be so angry after their 5-1 win over Brentford on Saturday

Darren Bent has claimed on the Kelly and Wrighty Show that Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson will be ‘fuming’ after their 5-1 over Brentford.

Wilson has been Newcastle’s most prolific goal scorer since making the £20 million switch from Bournemouth back in 2020 (Sky Sports).

The 30–year-old has been hampered by injuries and was recently sidelined for over a month after the 3-3 draw with Manchester City. The striker is back in the side now and got on the score sheet against Fulham last week.

But Wilson didn’t get amongst the goals at St James’ Park on Saturday as Newcastle thrashed the Bees. And Bent thinks he will be angry, despite an emphatic win.

Bent claims Wilson will be angry

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Bent was full of praise for Wilson and feels he is still ahead of Alexander Isak in the pecking order at the club.

“I think if they can keep Callum Wilson fit, he is the key,” he said.

“If they can keep him fit I would have no doubts that he would be on the plane going to the World Cup, because I think he’s that good.

“I think he’s important, and they have Isak backing him up, but Wilson just gives them a different dimension.

“He didn’t score at the weekend and I know probably deep down inside he’s fuming. You score five and you don’t get one! But he’s so integral to what they do well.”

Wilson will undoubtedly be disappointed to not get on the scoresheet on Saturday. But Newcastle have now scored nine goals in their last two games with him in the side.

The English striker has already bagged three goals in five games, despite a disrupted start to the season.

If it wasn’t for yet another injury, Wilson could have put himself in contention for a place in Gareth Southagte’s latest England squad.

The Magpies talisman will be hoping to get back amongst the goals over the coming weeks and at least give himself a glimmer of hope of making England’s World Cup squad.
