Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was in international action on Thursday as he helped Switzerland to a 3-1 victory in their opening World Cup qualifier.

The Gunners man captained his nation against Bulgaria, who found themselves three goals down within the opening 15 minutes of the game.

Breel Embolo opened the scoring after just seven minutes, heading home from Ricardo Rodriguez’s delivery.

Haris Seferovic then fired past Plamen Iliev from close range three minutes later, and Steven Zuber made it three on 13 minutes after slotting home from Xherdan Shaqiri’s delivery.

Xhaka continues to split opinion amongst Arsenal fans but he was in great form for his nation on Thursday, boasting impressive passing accuracy and weighing in with several key deliveries.
