On Friday, Fulham announced the signing of 17-year-old Luca Murphy on a deal until the summer of 2021.
The signing of the highly-rated central defender is an excellent youth acquisition for the Whites, marking a smart long-term signing of a player who could become a key part of the Fulham side for years to come.
According to Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones, Fulham beat out the likes of Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers for Murphy’s signature — an impressive sign of intent for Fulham.
Clearly, young players see Craven Cottage as an ideal place to develop their talents and progress into the first team, a positive sign for Fulham’s chances next season in the Championship.
“The facilities are brilliant, the coaching staff are top class, and there is a pathway for young players to progress into the First Team,” Murphy told Fulham’s official website. “You only need to look at Ryan Sessegnon and what he’s achieved at such a young age. He is somebody that I look up to massively.”
Next season, Fulham can look forward to the likes of Steven Sessegnon, Marlon Fossey, Luca de la Torre, Tayo Edun, and now Murphy breaking through into the first team.
With the addition of a hugely promising young central defender, Fulham have set themselves up for long-term success.
