When Denis Odoi put Fulham ahead seven minutes into the second half of their FA Cup third round tie against Oldham yesterday, he must have expected his side to go on and complete a routine win.
Their performance had been as disjointed as might be expected from a side low on confidence and lacking in fluidity due to rotation, but when the bigger side takes the lead in contests such as these, they do not generally surrender it.
But surrender it they did as a Sam Surridge penalty drew the managerless visitors level, before Aleksandar Mitrovic spurned a chance to put Fulham back ahead five minutes from time.
He was brought on for Tom Cairney directly between the captain winning it and it being taken, but failed to find the net with his first touch.
