Everton have now agreed a deal to sign Kenny Tete on a free transfer.
The Netherlands international officially sees his contract with Fulham expire at the end of June, and despite engaging in talks over a new deal with the Cottagers, an agreement could not be found.
Fabrizio Romano now states that the Dutchman has given “verbal” confirmation to Everton over a three-year contract, with “formal steps” such as a medical to occur next week.
After hearing the news, Fulham fans shared some telling comments on X (previously known as Twitter).
Fulham fans devastated as Kenny Tete agrees to join Everton
The 29-year-old was clearly a popular man in west London, as supporters are dismayed by the fact he is now close to joining Everton.
One fan said they were “gutted to see” Tete depart – adding that he will be “sorely missed” at Craven Cottage – posting in full: “What a player. Gutted to see Tete leave.
“What an outstanding stint he had at the club. Always left everything out there on the pitch. He was absolutely immense under Marco Silva and will be sorely missed, and tough to replace. Best of luck at Everton, thank you for everything.”
Another fan echoed this disappointment, writing: “Sickener this. Peak years ahead and stayed loyal through ups and downs. Oh, and wanted to stay. Thank you for everything King Kenny Tete.”
Others were more brief with their views – albeit still upset – with one simply posting “day ruined” upon hearing the news, as another added “this is not good” to see.
Another was more in shock, saying that they “genuinely can’t believe” Tete is heading to Everton, and that they are “really disappointed” in both the right-back as well as Fulham.
A sixth supporter was also in disbelief, writing: “Mate, what?! He’s an incredible RB (right-back). Why are Fulham not fighting to retain him?”
Kyle Walker-Peters could replace Kenny Tete
Despite trying to keep Tete, any club with some sense would have a replacement lined up in case talks collapsed, and Fulham – who could sign Harvey Elliott – have done exactly that.
TBR Football understand Fulham are keen to sign Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer of their own, as the England international prepares to see his deal with Southampton end.
However, West Ham are also interested in the Tottenham academy graduate after deciding not to tie Vladimir Coufal down to a new contract, so the Cottagers would be wise to act quickly after Everton pinched Tete.
