Fulham fans hail Chambers’ performance in gutting late defeat against Tottenham

Fulham produced their best 45 minutes of the season so far in the first half of their match against a depleted Tottenham side at Craven Cottage yesterday.

The Cottagers poured forward at will and deserved more than just a Fernando Llorente own goal to show for their efforts at the interval.

That they didn’t have more goals to their name was down to a combination of poor finishing and a good performance from Hugo Lloris, and that meant that the second half was always going to be a struggle.

So it proved, as Tottenham emerged after the break with renewed purpose and when Dele Alli equalized so soon after the restart, a long second half looked to be on the cards.

Calum Chambers was exceptional in the middle of the park as his transformation into a defensive midfielder continued apace, winning the ball back and setting the tone for a battling performance.

It’s a cliche but if Fulham perform like that in every match between now and the end of the season, they will give themselves every chance of being safe.

And if Chambers plays like this every week, it will go a long way too, and the Fulham fans were keen to pay tribute to a performance they enjoyed, even if the blow of a late defeat due to a Harry Winks goal was a bitter pill to swallow…
