‘Frustrated’: £19m West Ham man says he’s been doing extra training to improve his form

West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek has told the club’s official website that he’s been doing extra training to improve his recent form.

Soucek has proven to be an astute signing for the Hammers after making the switch from Slavia Prague for £19.1 million two summers ago (BBC).

The 27-year-old has formed a brilliant partnership with Declan Rice in central midfield and provided a real aerial threat going forward.

The Czech Republic international had struggled to maintain his consistent performances in East London this season. But he has revealed that he has been putting in extra work in training to improve his form.

Soucek says he’s been doing extra training

Speaking to West Ham’s official website, Soucek revealed that he was frustrated by his early season form.

“At the start, I didn’t play my best, especially in the first five games,” he said.

“I tried to do even more because I was frustrated that I didn’t do best on the pitch, so I did even more at the training ground.

“It’s very difficult to be at the top level in the whole of your career. I always give my maximum on the pitch, but sometimes I do not play to my best. When this happens, I try different things to get back to my best.”

Soucek and West Ham have turned a corner in recent weeks after a poor start to the new season.

The Hammers lost five of their opening seven Premier League games this season and Soucek’s displays from midfield were a concern.

But the midfielder has improved massively in recent weeks and helped David Moyes’ men climb back up the table.

The extra work on the training ground is clearly paying off for both Soucek and West Ham at this moment in time. The Hammers now sit seventh in the table, having won three out of their last four games.
