From Wolves outcast to Liverpool hero: Adama Traore dents Man City’s title hopes

Adama Traore was struggling for game time last season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore is the unlikely man to make a big impression on the title race. Traore scored twice as Wolves beat Manchester City 2-0 at The Etihad Stadium.

Widely criticised last season, Traore’s performances have picked up this term. But this was his finest moment in gold and black without a doubt. His two-goal cameo has handed Liverpool a major boost in their title chase.

After Liverpool scored a late winner against Leicester City on Saturday, the onus was on Man City to play catch-up. Eight points separated the two title contenders ahead of Sunday’s match in Manchester.

But Pep Guardiola’s team tried and failed to break down the Wolves backline. Then, late in the game, some tricky footwork from Raul Jimenez opened up a chance for Wolves and Traore cooly slotted past Ederson.

With City chasing the game, Traore used his pace on the counter-attack again. It was the same combination as fan favourite Jimenez teed up Traore, who found the same bottom corner.

Wolves and Liverpool fans alike erupted when Traore downed City. Here are some Liverpool fans reacting to Traore’s performance.
