'From what I'm told': Fabrizio Romano shares fresh update that'll be music to Tottenham fans' ears
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte.
The transfer guru was speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE on their weekly Gazzetta Dello FIVE video.
Romano has sought to allay fears among Spurs fans amid speculation linking Conte with Paris Saint-Germain.
HITC Sport's First New Signing REVEALED
There have been several worrying reports about the Tottenham manager’s future in recent days.
The Times linked Conte with the PSG job this week amid uncertainty over Mauricio Pochettino’s own future.
The Italian has allegedly ‘offered himself’ to the newly-crowned Ligue 1 side on a two-year deal (Le Parisien).
RMC Sport also claimed Conte had made a series of demands to PSG, including a wage increase and control over transfers.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport rubbished the speculation, with the Italian’s camp reportedly labelling it ‘fake news’.
“Already planning for Tottenham’s future”
Likewise, Romano doesn’t believe Conte will have been talking to PSG, claiming it’s not his style.
The journalist says he knows his compatriot well, and he wouldn’t be talking to one club whilst still working for another.
In addition, Romano claims Conte will celebrate Champions League qualification like a title win if Spurs finish in the top four.
“I think at the moment from PSG and Conte’s side the answer is still the same,” he said.
“They say they are not in contact, that all the rumours are not confirmed yet.
“And so at the moment, from what I’m told, there is nothing going on.
“Also, I know Antonio since long time. And when he’s involved in something important as this Champions League spot race with Tottenham, he’s never going to negotiate with another club.
“It’s not his style. If you see how Antonio Conte left all these clubs, it was never by negotiating with another club while working for another club.
“He was always leaving one club and then joining another one. So it’s not Antonio’s style and I’m sure that at the moment he’s only focusing on Tottenham.
“He’s already planning for Tottenham’s future, of course he will ask for important things – the opportunity to sign new players, to keep Harry Kane at the club – so he wants to see the ambition.
“He’s focusing on the Champions League race, because I’m told that for Antonio, the feeling around Antonio is a CL spot for Tottenham this season would be like a title for Antonio Conte.
“He will say publicly, ‘it’s like a title for me’.”
