Fabrizio Romano has spoken about the contract negotiations between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast.

The Reds forward is under contract at Anfield until the end of the 2022-23 season.

However, there hasn’t yet been a breakthrough, which has led to a number of worried Reds fans.

With Salah’s contract in its last 18 months, failure to tie him down to fresh terms could force Liverpool into making a tough decision.

Either they’d let his contract run down and he could then leave Anfield for free, or they’d sell him to recoup a fee.

Last week, The Mirror reported that Salah is refusing to budge on his belief that he is worth £400,000-a-week to Liverpool.

It would cost Liverpool in excess of £80million to pay him what he wants over the course of a new four-year deal, added the report.

“Real priority”

Romano, speaking on the Here We Go podcast, said: “At the moment, they are still negotiating.

“Let’s say that they are still in negotiation. But from what I heard also in the last hours, it’s not close.

“So we are not at the final stages, like close to [an] announcement. It takes time, they’re negotiating.

“For Liverpool, [it] is a real priority.

“This is why they’re not signing wingers, because they want to resolve the Salah situation as soon as possible.

“But at the moment, it’s not yet at the final stages.”

Salah has been sensational for most of his time at Anfield, this season he’s reached stratospheric levels.

He has registered a staggering 23 goals and nine assists from just 26 Liverpool appearances this term.

Salah is currently playing at the Africa Cup of Nations, and has helped Egypt reach the last 16.
