'Clear agreements': Journalist believes Berbatov-like striker is heading to England amid Tottenham links

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly rekindled their interest in Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic.

Earlier this week, BILD – via Sport Witness – claimed that Spurs have the 24-year-old on their radar.

Tottenham were reportedly eyeing Kalajdzic last year, when Harry Kane’s Spurs future appeared uncertain.

The BILD report also claimed that Sascha Empacher, the player’s agent, was in England last week.

Apparently, the ‘greatest interest’ his client is receiving is coming from the Premier League.

At the same time, Tottenham reportedly face competition from one of Europe’s top clubs.

Kalajdzic is apparently in talks with Bayern Munich as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

However, German outlet TZ has claimed that the player’s negotiations with the Bavarian club are stalling.

Apparently, the Premier League is ‘tempting’ for Kalajdzic, where Tottenham are ‘interested’ in him.

Now, journalist Marcel Reif has claimed that Kalajdzic has ‘relatively clear agreements’ in place to make a move to England this summer.

While he didn’t mention Tottenham, Reif seemed confident about the prospect of the 6ft 7in colossus moving to the Premier League, and backed him to be a success.

“I think he will go to England. From what I hear, there are already relatively clear agreements,” he told Reif Ist Live, relayed by Focus and translated by Sport Witness.

“Not quite Liverpool, but below. The West Hams of this world are looking for players like that.

“He’s a great boy, he’s far from finished. We’ll be hearing from him if he stays healthy. Bayern would have been too early for him.”

Can Spurs land Berba 2.0?

Kalajdzic would be a decent shout for Tottenham, a talented player who boasts aerial threat and technical skills.

Last year, the Daily Mail wrote: “Standing in at two meters, Kalajdzic could be seen as a target man given that he makes good use of his height with regular goals coming from headers.

“But there is more to his game than just pumping the ball long to him and hoping for the best.

“He actually started his career as a midfielder and this experience has helped him develop technical skills to match his aerial threat. That’s quite a combination.

“He drew inspiration from Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic who he has called ‘an idol’ and based his game around while starting out as a professional.

“In attack he is supremely effective in holding up the ball and naturally at his height is a huge threat when it comes to set-pieces.”

Kalajdzic helped Stuttgart avoid relegation from the Bundesliga last season.

He weighed in with six goals and two assists from 15 league matches, finishing as their top scorer.

This is despite a shoulder injury keeping him out of the side until January.

In 2020-21, Kalajdzic registered an impressive 17 goals and six assists in all competitions.

Fans on Twitter have compared the 15-cap, four-goal Austria international to Dimitar Berbatov and Peter Crouch.
