Leeds sit second in the Championship table after a 1-1 draw away from home against fellow promotion hopefuls Preston North End last night.
Tom Barkhuizen put the hosts ahead with a little over 15 minutes remaining, before substitute Eddie Nketiah levelled the scores on 87 minutes with a looping header.
Leeds played well but were unable to find the net before the introduction of Nketiah, and might have felt they should have had the chance to win the game late on.
Tyler Roberts went down in the box after a challenge from Ben Pearson, and Gianni Alioski told Leeds Live how upset he was with Kevin Friend’s decision not to award a penalty.
He said: “I’ve said this before. We fight against the team that we play and against the referees. It’s unbelievable that the referees don’t help us sometimes, because it’s a clear penalty. It’s unbelievable how they don’t see it. There’s four referees on the pitch and nobody sees it.”
But a new camera angle, which has emerged from a fan who filmed it behind the goal, shows that Pearson’s full-blooded tackle nicks the ball away.
It’s a completely different view to the one Alioski likely had from the left flank and it should make many Leeds fans feel the right decision was made.
Some fans may feel that decision would have gone against Leeds – or that it there was more contact after the tackle than Gaetano Berardi made against Millwall – but that can’t affect Friend’s thinking here.
