Bayern Munich and France legend Willy Sagnol has claimed Liverpool target Nabil Fekir is ‘too inconsistent’.
The star had an underwhelming season for Lyon in 2018/19, making 39 appearances and scoring 12 goals.
He also laid on nine assists, but fans were often frustrated with the star.
Fekir famously came close to signing for Liverpool in the summer of 2018, but the move collapsed at the medical stage.
Fekir remained with Lyon and continued to wear the captain’s armband – something Sagnol did not agree with.
He told RMC Sport, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo: “They have to take the armband off him and put him on the bench if he doesn’t want to play.
“He is too inconsistent with his performances and it has cooled the interest in him from big clubs. They want players who are eight out of ten all the time. That is not the case with Fekir.”
Between Sagnol’s comments and the player’s apparent fragility, perhaps Liverpool are best to move on from Fekir.
There is supposedly an agreement for Fekir to leave Lyon this summer, but The Independent reported earlier this month that Liverpool will not be moving for him.
Fekir’s lack of consistency is somewhat worrying, although one would imagine he would improve playing in a better team under a better manager.
That said, Liverpool have options in attacking midfield, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain now back in the picture, and Xherdan Shaqiri a similar player to the Frenchman.
