Goalkeeper Joshua Rae may have just hinted that he could be set to rejoin Leeds United on Twitter, after being released by the Yorkshire club earlier in the summer.
Rae, 18, was released by Leeds at the start of the summer, just two years after first joining the Leeds academy from Celtic in the summer of 2017. That was despite a superb display for Leeds Under-23’s in the Premier League Cup.
Indeed, Rae has been working hard to earn a contract at a new club. He has turned out for Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town on trial this summer, before trying his luck at Paul Heckingbottom’s Hibernian.
It came as somewhat of a surprise, then, when Rae appeared on the substitute bench when Leeds took on Serie A side Cagliari in pre-season. His latest Tweet suggests that he could rejoin Leeds.
TBR’s view – Could Rae be involved against Salford for Leeds?
Coming on as a substitute for Harrison Male in the Premier League Cup against Fulham, Leeds were down to 10 men but Izzy Brown had made the score 2-2. The Whites were tasked with holding on for penalties.
Rae produced save after save, stopping one-on-ones and keeping Leeds in the game – before producing saves in the penalty-shootout. It was jaw-dropping to see, then, that Leeds had released him.
But now Leeds looked to have made the right decision if indeed Rae returns on a contract, and with Salford coming up on Tuesday – could Rae’s “big week ahead” caption suggest he will be involved in the Carabao Cup clash?
