Gary Hooper has been linked with a move to Celtic after his contract at English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday expired. Now, he has dropped an enormous Instagram hint that he could be on his way to Parkhead.
The 31-year-old only managed six appearances for Wednesday this season, with injury preventing him from developing any real kind of momentum. It saw the Owls decide against offering him a new deal.
Hooper played for three years at Celtic between 2010 and 2013, scoring a huge 82 goals in just 138 league and cup outings. He scored in the Champions League, in Old Firm derbies and five against Hearts on one occasion.
The former Norwich City and Scunthorpe United announced he would be leaving Wednesday on a free on Twitter, shortly after retweeting a Celtic fan who suggested he should come back up the road.
Now, Hooper has dropped another ‘come-and-get-me’ plea to Celtic by posting a picture of himself in Celtic colours on his Instagram story, as posted on Twitter by Celtic fan Danny Watters.
Gary Hooper just posted this on instagram, hinting at something? A lot of people against us resigning him, but he was a brilliant goalscorer with us and for a free transfer why not? Obviously still expect the board to spend though. pic.twitter.com/dhCN4bLG61

Is Hooper a good signing? Odsonne Edouard is the club’s best striker without question, but cover for the French talisman is wearing thin. Leigh Griffiths continues to take time out from football, while Vakoun Bayo has been a poor signing.
A striker is certainly needed this summer to provide cover, and perhaps competition to Edouard and on a free, Hooper is an excellent acquisition.
If Neil Lennon does get the job permanently, signing him for a second time would bring the best out of Celtic’s former number 88.
