Free agent comments on future after reported Leeds United approach

Reports claimed earlier this week that Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers had made initial enquiries over a move to sign free agent Patrick Erras after his Nuremburg contract expired – and now the player has commented.

Erras, 25, is now without a club despite clocking up 25 appearances for Nuremburg last season – helping the second-tier German side escape relegation with some excellent performances in midfield. They finished in 16th.

German newspaper Bild claimed this week that both Leeds and QPR had opened talks to sign Erras, while Nuremburg were still working to keep the 6ft 5in midfielder. Top-tier side Werder Bremen are in pole position.

Erras has now commented on the interest from “home and abroad” and stated that it is really “exciting” to be linked with such names. Though he does not mention any clubs, it is likely that he is discussing potential Leeds interest.

“There are some clubs from home and abroad that are interested (in signing me),” Erras told German website Onetz. “It will be really exciting.”

TBR’s view – Orta has got to lure Erras to Elland Road

Though he is hardly experienced in top-tier football – playing just 19 times in the Bundesliga – Erras would be a stunning signing and for multiple reasons. Yes, Leeds need cover in holding midfield and at centre-back.

Erras can operate in both positions – but more importantly, Leeds need a threat in both penalty areas. A player to defend corners and free-kicks, and a player that can get his head on deliveries. At 6ft 5in, Erras is ideal on a free.
