Frederic Kanoute comments on Tottenham’s lack of passion

Frederic Kanoute isn’t too impressed by the current Tottenham group and believes that there is a lack of passion on the pitch from their players.

Spurs do appear to have lost their intensity during recent games and are on a four-game streak without a win that is massively impacting their season in a negative fashion.

Jose Mourinho’s team were knocked out of the FA Cup fifth round on penalties to Norwich City in midweek, which came fresh off the back of two consecutive league defeats and a loss to RB Leipzig in the first leg of a Champions League last 16 tie.

The North London club have certainly lost the attacking spark that existed when Mourinho initially took charge mid-season, but they’ve look quite pragmatic in their approach in recent games and defensive issues continue to haunt them too.

Ex-Spurs forward Kanoute has given his critical verdict on his former team and would like to see more from them going forward.

“The last few games I’ve seen from Tottenham I think it lacks of passion, of going forward, of trying,” Kanoute told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

“It feels like they are almost waiting for something to happen and after to try catch up on the result. It’s not about Jose, it’s just I’m not a big fan of the way their game plan goes right now. I would rather see a team that just go for it and make good use of the young talented players they have.”

TBR’s View:

It’s unfair to suggest the Spurs players don’t have passion, but they are certainly on a downhill slope and it’s crucial they return to winnings ways against Burnley on Saturday to keep them in the top four race.

They are clearly lacking energy without injured star Heung-Min Son, who is missing alongside Harry Kane and much has been made of their absences.

But players like Lucas Moura, Giovani Lo Celso and Steven Bergwijn do inject pace and quality to the side.

With the defence clearly not good enough to keep clean sheets, some feel it’s best to fight fire with fire and go on the front foot.
