Freddie Ljungberg told Sky Sports (broadcast on 15/3 from 16:00) that Erik Lamela’s goal for Spurs in the North London derby was insane, and hinted that it is one of the best he has seen.

It proved to be a hugely eventful game for Lamela at the Emirates. He started the game on the bench, but was brought on after just 19 minutes after Son Heung-min came off injured.

And shortly after, he managed to break the deadlock in outrageous style. The 29-year-old produced a Rabona finish into the bottom corner that found its way through Thomas Partey’s legs and swerved slightly past Bernd Leno.

And as the second-half was just about to kick-off, Ljungberg expressed his disbelief at what the attacking midfielder did.

“The goal is insane,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s probably the best one I’ve ever seen. The technique, the power and keeping it down, he even gets a bit of curl on it to take it back in. It’s insane.”

Of course, the evening would end in disappointing fashion for Lamela and Tottenham. Arsenal turned the game around to lead 2-1. And Lamela missed out on seeing the final 14 minutes.

He was sent off for two yellow cards in fairly quick succession, with the second coming as he fended off Kieran Tierney with his arm.

It was probably a game that summed some of Lamela’s time at Spurs up quite nicely. He produced a moment of sheer brilliance before going on to make a significant error.

Lamela has the talent to steal the headlines for all of the right reasons. But unfortunately, his stunning goal will always have to share the spotlight with a red card and a derby defeat.
