Fraser Forster has admitted that he has been surprised by the amount of quality within the Celtic squad, and claimed that the Hoops would be able to hold their own in the Premier League, in comments reported by the Daily Record.

Celtic have made a fantastic start to the new season. They have won their opening six games in the Scottish Premiership, including an outstanding display at Ibrox to claim bragging rights in the first Old Firm game of the campaign.

There were concerns when Neil Lennon got the Celtic job on a permanent basis after a somewhat underwhelming spell as caretaker. But he has responded to his critics in emphatic fashion.

And Forster – who returned to Parkhead on loan in the summer having left for £10 million in 2014 (via BBC Sport) – insisted that the Hoops have the quality that would allow them to compete at England’s top table.

“Looking at what we’ve got in the dressing room and the team we’ve got, there’s no reason why we wouldn’t have a comfortable season in the Premier League,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“I have been surprised at just how good they are. I knew there was a good squad here the second I came through the door but until you actually see people in training and day in day out and you see what they can do.”

Of course, there was plenty of disappointment that they could not reach the Champions League group-stages this term. But the Bhoys have responded superbly, and their summer signings – including Forster – are making a big impact.

Rangers appear to have made big strides this summer. So it says a lot that Celtic are currently keeping them at arm’s length. And it is arguably difficult to see where exactly the Hoops are going to drop points anytime soon.
