Celtic legend Frank McAvennie thinks Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should make Celtic defender Kieran Tierney his number one priority this summer.
The club’s former striker is of the opinion that Tierney is already a better player than United’s current left-back Luke Shaw.
McAvennie also added that he wasn’t sure if Tierney would want to leave before a 10th straight league title is sealed.
He said, as quoted by The Daily Record: “Kieran is a big Celtic fan and I’d love to see him stay for 10-in-a-row – but he’s a wonderful player and deserves to play in the best league in the world.
“If Tierney goes to England he will improve as he’ll be playing every week against the best players.
“He could go to Manchester United and be a great replacement for Shaw – it’s the worst defence I’ve seen in a United strip for years.
“Getting Tierney would be a great start to rebuilding. He’s better than Shaw now. In two years’ time…”
Celtic fans will have no time for McAvennie’s assessment, as they will not want to think about the possibility of Tierney leaving.
That said, some will be realistic about the, who clearly has the talent to be playing in the Premier League.
Whether he is already better than Shaw and could replace the Englishman in Solskjaer’s starting XI is another debate.
Tierney has already made 168 appearances for the Bhoys and is still only 21 years old. Many Celtic fans will undoubtedly be wanting him to add considerably more to that tally before venturing elsewhere.
