Frank McAvennie identifies Rangers replacement for Ryan Kent

Frank McAvennie has told Open Goal’s Right In The Coupon that he believes Rangers will not be able to afford on-loan Liverpool ace Ryan Kent, and has identified a replacement.

The Liverpool Echo claim Liverpool value Kent at a whopping £12million ahead of the summer window. The 22-year-old has impressed since joining Rangers on a season-long loan.

The former Bristol City, Barnsley and Freiburg loanee has had a hand in 14 goals for the Gers. Scoring five, he has shown a creative side that many Rangers players have failed to do – creating nine goals.

Rangers are unlikely to make the move permanent if Liverpool do want as much as £12million. But the club have been linked with Motherwell wonderkid Jake Hastie, and McAvennie reckons he will be Kent’s replacement.

“The boy from Motherwell [Hastie] they’re looking at. That will be his [Kent] replacement. Out wide, they’ll be hoping to get Hastie cheaper,” McAvennie said.

“Is he as good as Kent? I’m not sure. But he’s young, he hasn’t been tested, so you can’t be sure.”

TBR’s view

£12million for Kent is ludicrous. He is – at most – worth half of that and will only begin to increase his value when he starts to develop a consistent end product.

Hastie meanwhile, is something special. In just 10 games, which is 27 less than Kent, Hastie has scored six goals. That is one more than Kent – quite an incredible stat.

On a free as his contract is set to expire, Hastie is a bargain and is two years Kent’s junior. Larger potential, cheaper price and better end product already. It is an absolute no brainer.
