He might not have always been the most prolific striker in the world, but Everton forward Salomon Rondon has impressed his new manager, Frank Lampard.
Rondon scored twice this week against Boreham Wood to put his name back in Lampard’s thoughts. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured, Rondon is needed at the top of the pitch for a Toffees side fighting at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

And after being given his chance – and taking it – Lampard admitted that Rondon was an example for everyone in his Everton squad about taking your chance.
“In terms of options up front, he gives us something different. He’s trained really well when he’s not been playing, been very patient and yeah, he certainly gives us something different,” Lampard said following the win over Boreham Wood.
“How he holds the ball up, his physical presence in the box. Really pleased for him to get his two goals. And it’s really good for the squad. Shows everyone they can come in and take their opportunity.”
TBR’s View: Everton Will Need Rondon
Everton and Lampard need the entire squad ready to go in the run-in and having someone like Rondon about can only be a good thing, especially if he’s in form.
He’ll know full well he isn’t first choice. But the fact is he stepped up when required and showed he can contribute. At the end of the day, that is all Lampard can ask of his squad players.
