Frank Lampard has 'good news' for Everton fans ahead of Palace clash

Everton manager Frank Lampard has shared “good news” regarding Ben Godfrey’s road to recovery.

The Toffees defender has been sidelined since the 1-0 loss to Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

Godfrey suffered a fractured leg in the first half of the game and had to be carried off on a stretcher.

The Everton centre-back has stepped up his recovery, returning to individual outdoor work at Finch Farm.

Ahead of the Toffees’ Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace, Lampard provided a fresh update on Godfrey and Nathan Patterson.

“He (Patterson) is progressing and will be fit hopefully for next week,” the Everton boss told BBC Sport.

“Ben Godfrey will hopefully be training with us next week also. It’s early stages but he is back with us, which is good news.”

However, along with Andros Townsend, Godfrey isn’t expected to be available until after the World Cup.

Lampard suggested that for Everton’s Under-21s at some point could be part of how he can get fully up to speed.

“I think it might be tough for him to be back before the World Cup, if I’m honest,” he told Liverpool World. “Because it’s November 12 we break up.

“We’ll look at the best plan for that. It’s good for us we have this break because it means Ben has that time, Andros Townsend has that time – he’s in a similar situation in terms of recovery.

“It’s good for us for those in terms of those players in particular.

“Maybe Under-21s games, extend his training and get him back. If he’s not ready before the break then get him ready for Boxing Day.”
