Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has told Goal that he always believed in Kurt Zouma.
Lampard revealed there was interest in Zouma in the summer but wanted him to stay at Chelsea. It is believed that Everton wanted to re-sign Zouma after his successful loan spell in 2018/19.
Back in June, BBC Sport claimed that Everton were preparing a move to bring Zouma back to Goodison Park. He played 36 games for the Toffees last season.
However, Lampard wanted to use Zouma at Chelsea. After a shaky start, he has nailed down his starting spot alongside Fikayo Tomori. It looks like Everton’s hopes of signing Zouma in the future are slim – especially if Lampard remains in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard on Zouma

Lampard said (via Goal): “There was a belief that I had in Kurt because there was interest in the summer after we all know he had a very good loan at Everton last year.
“But I believed in him as I believed in Tomori – that is why I made the decisions I made pre-season in terms of where we were going to look defensively.”
TBR’s view
Everton’s defence has been missing Zouma this season. With Yerry Mina regularly picking up injuries and Michael Keane struggling for his form, Zouma could have helped lift Marco Silva’s men up the league table.
But it does not look like Everton will get the chance to sign the Frenchman in January. Zouma has got his chance through injuries and he has taken it. The 24-year-old is now firmly part of Lampard’s plans.
