Francis Coquelin reportedly for sale, David Moyes should rekindle 2018 interest – TBR View

It appears La Liga outfit Valencia are set for a fire-sale this summer, as reports suggest several first-team players were told they can leave the club this summer earlier in the week.

Cadena COPE is reporting that at least seven players have been told they have no future at the club. Those include the likes of Geoffrey Kondogbia, Kevin Gameiro, and club captain Dani Pajero.

Another name on that list is Francis Coquelin, which might pique the interest of one Premier League manager.

West Ham United boss David Moyes has previously been credited as being a fan of the Frenchman.

In January 2018, it was reported that Moyes was a big fan of the combative midfielder and wanted to bring him to West Ham.

However, the report from the Daily Mail also suggested the Scotsman was fearful that Coquelin preferred the idea of playing in Spain with Valencia.

Moyes’ fears proved correct. Coquelin joined Los Che a week later in a deal worth a reported (The Mirror) £12 million.

West Ham went on to bring in Joao Mario on loan from Inter Milan instead and Moyes was gone at the end of the season.

But now he is back with the Hammers, who need further recruits in midfield this summer.

If he was to make the move, he would be reunited with Jack Wilshere, who he has known since he was 15. The Englishman was singing Coquelin’s praises back in 2015 (Arsenal.com), hailing him as ‘tenacious’ and his presence would undoubtedly help sweeten any deal.

“I used to wind him up by saying, ‘Listen, you do all the dirty work and the tackling and then let me have the ball!’ But the thing is, he loves that side of it. He’s really good at it, he’s tenacious, the way he always goes after the ball. Not everyone has that ability to win the ball back and to be aggressive.”

Coquelin is unlikely to have left Moyes’ mind and if he can secure a deal at a reasonable price the 29-year-old could provide a different presence in the West Ham midfield.
