Tottenham Hotspur forward Wilson Odobert will soon be returning to the club after a period of rest following the U21 Championships.
Alongside Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert suffered defeat in France’s semi-final with Germany on Wednesday night, a 3-0 loss which was pretty emphatic.
France underwhelmed at the tournament despite the best efforts of Tottenham pair Tel and Odobert.
Tel scored France’s winner in their quarter-final, but the former Bayern Munich forward couldn’t grab a goal against Germany, and nor could his compatriots.
And in terms of Odobert’s individual contribution, France manager Gerald Baticle saw fit to sub the Spurs winger at the 64th minute mark.
French media not impressed with Wilson Odobert in 3-0 defeat to Germany
At the tournament, Odobert played a part in all five of France’s games, and four of those were as a starter.
However, Tottenham fans were disappointed watching Odobert recently and his performance wasn’t reviewed any better by French media in the fall-out from Wednesday night.
Handing Odobert a 4/10 rating for his efforts, Maxifoot concluded that the Spurs winger ‘completely disappeared’ after the first 20 minutes of the match.

It appeared that Odobert started fairly well but after failing to make the most of some earlier chances, he ultimately failed to make his mark on the semi-final.
Sharing their thoughts, Maxifoot wrote: “The Tottenham striker failed to beat [Noah] Atubolu with a shot that was too soft, then with a pivot shot after a nice move to turn around in the middle of several defenders.
“Despite these two chances, he was too discreet in this semi-final and completely disappeared after 20 minutes.”
Wilson Odobert faces a tough fight for minutes under Thomas Frank
Of course, Odobert will be keen to make an impression under Thomas Frank once he does return to Tottenham this summer.
There’s no doubting that the 20-year-old has bags of ability, but he also has a lot of competition at Spurs.
Son Heung-min might leave Tottenham which would help Odobert’s chances somewhat.
Fortunately the Frenchman is able to operate effectively on either wing, but the same can also be said for the likes of Brennan Johnson.
And with Tottenham monitoring Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid, it might be very difficult to secure a regular spot in Frank’s front three next season.
As things stand, many would imagine that a combination of Tel and Johnson playing either side of Dominic Solanke is Spurs’ strongest set-up, in anticipation that Son does leave.
However, Richarlison wants to stay at Tottenham despite links away this summer and he might have a significant impact on Frank’s first team plans too.
